Help for Dog Joint Problems
Dog joint problems? Dogs can suffer from joint problems just like us. And, as with us, the pain and stiffness can be caused by soft tissue injuries, by joint injuries or degeneration, and plain old age.
If the dog joint problems are genetic – e.g. Hip Dysplasia – there’s not a lot you can do but control the pain and inflammation: the condition is not going to change. So you really need to check out the history of your dog’s family tree when you go to a breeder for a pup. There are breeds that have a higher incidence of HD. But as some Breed Societies are working hard to eradicate dog joint problems, those breeds are improving a lot. So you’ll need to check up with your chosen Breed Society too.
As you’ll know by now, I’m a firm believer in trying natural remedies as far as is possible, before having to have recourse to surgery or powerful drugs. Finding a natural substitute for the painkillers, anti-inflammatories and immuno-modulators on standard issue for dog joint problems would seem to be well nigh impossible. But this is where
Aloe Vera
comes in. I have seen remarkable results in animals being treated for dog joint problems.
“The Stories are Real, the Dogs are Real …”
Tia the Labrador got very stiff when she developed osteoarthritis in her front leg around age 9. This is one of the most common dog joint problems. The vet told her she would have to have injections every six weeks for the rest of her life. Her owner Checkie takes up the story:
“A few months ago I was recommended Aloe Vera Gel. Within three days there was a marked improvement in Tia’s stiffness. She could get out of her bed after lying down for a couple of hours without being lifted. She has started to run a lot more when out on her walks and she is not suffering afterwards like she used to. I would say Tia has improved by 60/70% since taking the Aloe Vera Gel. At the time of writing I am giving Tia 4 x 60mls of Gel a day (120mls in each meal). If Tia continues as she is doing I can see her going on for many more years. … If anyone reading this has an arthritic animal then I urge you to try the FLP products as ‘seeing is believing’ and I do believe that they have worked for Tia.” Checkie Taylor, U.K.
Tia could also benefit if she were taking 1 or 2 Super Omega 3 capsules a day for her dog joint problems, and did you know you can also rub Aloe Vera Heat Lotion into the skin (not the hair) over the joint? A couple of times a day will give considerable relief of dog joint problems. The Heat Lotion, or a gel containing organic sulfur (MSM) is also very helpful for relieving the pain and inflammation of soft tissue injuries – ligaments, tendons and muscles. Of course, a smaller dog would need much less Aloe Vera Gel per day - perhaps only 60 mls a day in total. You may also find that you can reduce the dose once your pet has some relief from his dog joint problems.
I can hear what you’re thinking … if it works for dog joint problems, will it work for people too? Sure! And what’s more this Aloe Vera is free from any harmful chemicals, and has no known side-effects.
Be sure you’re getting the right one, though. As with everything, I’ve found that there’s a great variation in the quality, so go straight over to see

Here’s another story of a dog’s life being made happier (I love these stories!)
“Holly, a 9-year-old Golden Retriever, who boards with me regularly, has arthritis. As with most elderly dogs with arthritis she moved with great stiffness and difficulty. While she was staying with me I put her onto the Forever Freedom and within a few days noticed that she was more agile and lively. I sent her home on the Freedom. She is now back to walking 10 miles regularly, with her owner Peter.” Sandie Bissett, Sobenkel Golden Retriever Boarding Kennels, Lusk, Co.Dublin
Sandie clearly provides an exceptional service at her Kennels.
Performance Dogs have dog joint problems too …
The product she mentions was also used by Anne Collen when she was running into dog joint problems with her International Working Trials Champion Hattie. Hattie competes at a very high level – one of the working dog elite. (You can learn more about the demanding yet fulfilling sport of
Working Trials here.)
This is truly a sport for canine athletes - and how they love it!
Look at what Anne says about Int.W.T.Ch. Braithwaite Hanky Panky, C.D.Ex, U.D.Ex, W.D.Ex, T.D.Ex.
“The working trials jumps (the 6 foot scale wall, 3 foot clear hurdle, and 9 foot long jump) test a dog to its limits. If they are feeling at all stiff or sore or below par, they will just refuse to do them. Hattie had had various injuries during her working life - shoulder, neck and chest mainly, and I was always waiting for the day when she was going to get stiff and arthritic and tell me she didn't want to do the jumps any more. When I heard about Forever Freedom about a year ago it sounded just what I was looking for, and I started giving Hattie a couple of ounces a day.
“So when Hattie should have been slowing down at the end of her career, she seemed to have renewed enthusiasm. Everybody remarks how fit and agile she is for her age! Hattie finished her Working Trials career at Surrey Championship Trial in England this April, qualifying T.D.Ex yet again and getting full marks for her jumps. As she was 10 years old, this was quite an achievement. The vast majority of dogs retire a lot earlier, some as young as 6 or 7. Hattie is happily enjoying her retirement now, and her winning record in Irish Working Trials remains unbeaten.” Anne Collen, Ireland
I enjoy hearing the pride and affection in Anne’s voice as she talks about her old friend Hattie. We get such pleasure from our dogs, be it going for 10-mile walks, competing at international level with all the daily training, teaching them tricks, or just having them loll about on the armchair. As their hair gets greyer (like ours!) it’s great to be able to alleviate their dog joint problems (and our own!) without great expense, and without complications.
The products people use to help with dog joint problems - and their own - are Aloe Vera Gel, Forever Freedom, Arctic Sea Super Omega 3, Aloe MSM Gel, and Aloe Heat Lotion.
